Punjab has taken steps toward reforms in Christian personal laws. The proposed changes include an online system for registering Christian marriages.
The development came during the second meeting of a high-level technical committee. The committee was formed on the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

During the meeting, members agreed on proposed changes to the Christian Marriage Act. The committee decided to present the proposed Christian Marriage Amendment Act before the Punjab Assembly.
One major proposal involves the registration of Christian marriages through an online system. The system aims to make the registration process more transparent.
It is also expected to improve the accuracy of official marriage records. The digital system could help reduce errors in marriage registration and record management.
The committee also reviewed the adoption of Christian personal laws. It considered amendments presented by the relevant sub-committee.
Officials from the concerned department briefed committee members about the proposed reforms. Dr. Noel Khokhar also delivered a presentation during the meeting.
The discussions covered several matters linked to the rights and needs of Christian citizens. The committee is working on proposals that could update existing legal and administrative procedures.
Punjab is also planning measures related to religious education for minority prisoners. The committee agreed to provide religious education and examination facilities to eligible prisoners.
Under the proposal, certified teachers will be nominated to teach minority prisoners. These teachers will provide religious education according to the relevant requirements.
A separate committee has also been established for this purpose. It will supervise the education and examination process for minority prisoners.
