An Israeli airstrike on Khan Younis killed senior Hamas leader Salah al-Bardaweel and his wife while they prayed in their tent. Bardaweel, 66, was Hamas’s highest-ranking political figure after Yahya Sinwar and Rawhi Mushtaha’s deaths. A father of eight, he was born in a refugee camp and had led Hamas’s parliamentary bloc before rejoining its political bureau in 2021.

The airstrike was part of Israel’s intense bombardment in southern Gaza since the ceasefire collapsed. At least 30 people were killed in Khan Younis and Rafah on Sunday, with Gaza’s overall death toll exceeding 50,000.
