Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt has clarified recent remarks about not feeling “at peace” in India, saying his comments were made during a scripted and humorous conversation on Shekhar Suman’s show.
The actor’s remarks had sparked discussion online after he spoke about his feelings regarding the situation in India during the programme. Dutt later addressed the comments on X, formerly known as Twitter, explaining the context behind his statements.
Sanjay Dutt Explains Context
In his clarification, Dutt said he never intended to hurt or disrespect any individual, community or institution through his remarks.
“I would like to clarify that it was never my intention to hurt, offend, or disrespect the sentiments of any individual, community, or institution,” the actor said.
Dutt explained that the conversation on the show was scripted and designed to be light-hearted.
According to the actor, his comments were made within the humorous context of the programme and were not intended to convey disrespect toward India or any particular group.
Actor Refers to ‘Gandhigiri’
Dutt also referred to the humour and satire associated with his popular Munna Bhai film franchise while explaining his comments.
He specifically mentioned the concept of “Gandhigiri”, which became widely associated with the Munna Bhai films.
According to Dutt, the idea behind his remarks was connected to themes of love, warmth, togetherness and goodwill.
The actor suggested that his words had been interpreted outside the context in which they were originally delivered.
Remarks Sparked Online Discussion
Dutt’s original comments during his appearance on Suman’s show attracted attention after he spoke about not feeling “at peace” in India.
The discussion focused on his comparison involving the country and its residents while he was speaking about the current situation.
The remarks subsequently circulated on social media, leading to different interpretations of what the actor meant.
Rather than allowing the comments to remain open to interpretation, Dutt later issued a clarification explaining that the exchange had been part of a scripted conversation.
Clarification Over Intended Message
Dutt’s statement focused on his intention rather than withdrawing from the broader discussion surrounding his appearance.
The actor made it clear that he did not want his comments to be understood as an attempt to offend people or institutions.
His reference to the Munna Bhai films was also intended to explain the humorous and satirical tone of the conversation.
The franchise has previously used humour to discuss social themes, with “Gandhigiri” becoming one of its most recognisable concepts.
Dutt said that the message behind the reference was connected with positive ideas such as goodwill and togetherness.
Actor Seeks to End Misinterpretation
The clarification comes after the remarks generated discussion among viewers and social media users.
Dutt’s explanation provides additional context about the setting in which the comments were made and how he intended them to be understood.
The actor’s statement also emphasised his position that he did not intend to hurt the sentiments of any community, individual or institution.
For now, the clarification has added context to the comments that emerged from his television appearance, while the original discussion continues to attract attention online.
