Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has received the UN-Habitat Scroll of Honour Award 2026. The award recognizes Punjab’s Apni Chhat Apna Ghar housing program.
The award was presented during a World Habitat Day ceremony in Muscat, Oman. The event was held at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Maryam Nawaz attended the ceremony as a special guest. The recognition was given for the Punjab government’s housing initiative.
The Apni Chhat Apna Ghar program focuses on affordable housing for low-income families. It helps eligible families build homes on land they already own.
The program was launched by the Punjab government in August 2024. It aims to improve access to safe and affordable housing across the province.
UN-Habitat recognized the initiative for expanding access to adequate and affordable housing. The organization also highlighted its focus on low-income households.
The program was selected through a competitive review of housing initiatives. It was included among five initiatives receiving the 2026 Scroll of Honour Award.
Senior Punjab Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb welcomed the international recognition. She said the program has delivered more than 200,000 homes across Punjab.
The housing initiative has also provided large-scale financing for home construction. Earlier reports said loans worth Rs260 billion had been disbursed for more than 200,000 houses.
The program is aimed particularly at people living in rented homes. It also supports families living in informal settlements.
Maryam Nawaz dedicated the international award to homeless people in Punjab. She described the recognition as an honour for people without homes.
The UN-Habitat Scroll of Honour recognizes contributions to housing and sustainable urban development. It can honor individuals, governments, institutions, organizations, and development projects.
UN-Habitat said Punjab’s housing agency has used public financing and digital technology. The approach also focuses on accountability during implementation.
The initiative is intended to improve housing security and living conditions. It also aims to support economic activity and local employment.
Maryam Nawaz received the award on behalf of the provincial housing initiative. The recognition places Punjab’s housing program among internationally recognized housing efforts.
The award ceremony took place alongside global events marking World Habitat Day. The occasion focuses on the need for safe, affordable, and adequate housing.
The Punjab government has described the award as international recognition of its housing efforts. The program continues to target low-income families seeking permanent housing solutions.
