The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has clarified its position on proof-of-life certificates for pensioners.
The authority said pension payments will not be stopped because a pensioner did not obtain the certificate in September.
The clarification aims to address concerns among retired employees. Some pensioners feared their monthly payments could be suspended without the required certificate.
NADRA Public Information Officer Syed Shabahat Ali discussed the matter during a podcast. He explained that missing the certificate alone will not stop pension payments.
He said the Government of Pakistan has already made a decision on the issue. Pension payments cannot be suspended solely because of the missing certificate.
The decision covers retired employees from several institutions across the country. It also includes former personnel of the Army and other armed forces.
Retired employees of federal government departments are also covered by the decision. Pensioners from provincial government departments are included as well.
According to the official, some institutions have not yet approached NADRA for proof-of-life services. Pensions from these institutions will also not be stopped for this reason.
The clarification provides relief to pensioners who were concerned about their payments. It also explains that the certificate is not, by itself, a reason for suspension.
NADRA has been working with relevant institutions to support the proof-of-life process. The authority is facilitating certificate issuance for pensioners.
The proof-of-life certificate is used to confirm that a pension recipient is still alive. Such verification helps institutions maintain accurate pension records.
However, NADRA has clarified that failure to obtain the certificate does not automatically end pension payments. Pensioners should therefore not assume their payments will stop solely for this reason.
The government decision applies to retired employees across different institutions. This includes pensioners linked to federal and provincial departments.
The clarification also covers retired armed forces personnel. It provides a broader explanation of the current pension payment policy.
NADRA continues coordinating with institutions that require proof-of-life services. The authority is working to make the process easier for eligible pensioners.
Pensioners can continue following instructions issued by their respective institutions. They should also remain aware of any separate verification requirements.
The latest clarification removes uncertainty surrounding the September certificate requirement. Pension payments will not be suspended solely due to its non-issuance.

The government may continue improving pension verification systems. NADRA’s coordination with relevant institutions remains part of this process.
