The Pakistan Army slammed former Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday, claiming he made a “highly irresponsible and baseless allegation” against a sitting senior military commander without providing any evidence.

“This fabricated and malicious allegation is extremely regrettable, deplorable, and unacceptably unacceptable.” “For the past year, military and intelligence officials have been targeted with insinuations and sensational propaganda in order to further political objectives,” said the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) in a statement.

“We urge the political leader in question to take legal action and stop making false allegations.”

According to the ISPR, the institution reserves the authority to take legal action against obviously false and malicious remarks and propaganda.

The comments came after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chastised Imran Khan for “routinely maligning [the] Pakistan army and intelligence agency” earlier in the day.

In a tweet, Prime Minister Shehbaz claimed that Imran “routinely maligning and threatening [the] Pakistan army and intelligence agency for petty political gains was highly condemnable.”

“His levelling of allegations against Gen Faisal Naseer and officers of our intelligence agency without any proof cannot and will not be tolerated,” Shehbaz stated.

With a screenshot of the incumbent prime minister’s tweet, Imran asked whether he could “dare” to ask the prime minister if he, as a citizen “who suffered two assassination attempts on his life in [the] last few months,” had the right to name individuals he believed were “responsible” for the assassination attempts.

“Why was I denied my legal and constitutional right to register a FIR?” he tweeted. Imran also questioned whether the premier’s comments suggested military officers “were above the law or couldn’t commit a crime.”

“How is [the] institution being maligned if we allege one of them has committed a crime?”

The former prime minister further questioned who was “powerful” enough to “sabotage” the joint investigation team (JIT) investigating the Wazirabad tragedy while the PTI was still “powerful in Punjab.”

Furthermore, Imran urged Shehbaz to explain “why the ISI took over [the] ICT Judicial Complex” prior to his March 18 appearance, and why the ‘ISI personnel’ were dressed as counter-terrorism officers and attorneys.

“What was [the] motive, and what business did ISI have in the complex?”

He went on to say that if Prime Minister Shehbaz answered his questions “truthfully,” all indications would point to “one powerful man and his accomplices being above the law.”

“Then it is time for us to officially declare that there is only jungle law in Pakistan, where might is right,” he remarked.
