Imran Khan has been placed on a 10-day physical remand in connection with the May 9 cases

The anti-terrorism court in Lahore has placed the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, on a 10-day physical remand related to 12 cases from May 9. These cases were filed against Imran Khan at various police stations, including Sarwar Road, Gulberg, Race Course, Shadman, Mughalpura, and Model Town. Due to security concerns, Imran Khan was presented via video link instead of appearing in person.

During the proceedings, Imran Khan told the judge that his actions were intended as peaceful protests, despite the allegations. He requested a judicial inquiry into the events of May 9 and called for the Chief Justice of Pakistan to intervene. “I have never incited violence in my 28-year history,” Imran Khan asserted, denying any involvement in the May 9 riots. He also noted discrepancies regarding CCTV footage and how his requests were handled.

Advocate Azhar Siddique, representing Imran Khan, argued for his client’s innocence, citing a lack of evidence against him. The public prosecutor referred to a video uploaded by Imran Khan on May 9, 2023, which is being verified. Judge Khalid Arshad Malik assured that the arguments would be documented and decisions made based on legal merits, but he also expressed concerns about Imran Khan’s absence in court, as justified by the prosecution for security reasons.
