Government Cuts Petrol Price by Rs4 Per Litre

The federal government has announced a fresh revision in petroleum product prices, providing additional relief to consumers by reducing the price of petrol ahead of the new week. The latest adjustment has been made under the country’s regular weekly fuel price review mechanism and will come into effect from June 6, 2026.

According to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division, the price of Motor Spirit (MS), commonly known as petrol, has been reduced by Rs4 per litre. Following the revision, the new ex-depot price of petrol has been set at Rs377.78 per litre compared to the previous rate of Rs381.78 per litre.

Meanwhile, the government has decided to keep the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) unchanged. The rate of diesel, which is widely used in the transport, industrial, and agriculture sectors, will remain at Rs380.78 per litre during the upcoming week. Officials said the decision was made after reviewing international market trends and local pricing calculations.

The revised fuel rates will remain in force for the next seven days as part of the government’s weekly pricing framework. Authorities regularly review petroleum prices based on fluctuations in global oil markets, exchange rates, and other relevant economic factors that influence domestic fuel costs.

The latest reduction is expected to offer some relief to motorists and households already facing inflationary pressures. Lower petrol prices can help reduce transportation expenses for private vehicle owners and may also contribute to easing costs in certain sectors of the economy.

This announcement follows a significant reduction made during the previous fuel price review when both petrol and diesel prices were cut by Rs22 per litre. That move was welcomed by consumers and businesses, and the latest decrease in petrol prices continues the trend of providing some support amid changing global energy market conditions.
