In Lahore, the Punjab Safe Cities Authority has expanded the CM Maryam Nawaz Free Wifi Service from 100 to 200 points across the provincial capital. This initiative, directed by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, aims to provide free internet access at various locations including Manga Mandi, Multan Road, Bund Road, Chung, Shah Pur Kanjran, Sundar, Valencia, Maraka, and other areas. According to an official statement, this service is part of the ‘digital Punjab’ vision and offers emergency WiFi connectivity for citizens.
The free WiFi service allows access to essential applications such as the Women Safety and Punjab Police Apps, as well as WhatsApp, enabling users to contact police and family members during emergencies. Each WiFi device covers a range of up to 300 feet from its installation point in Lahore, facilitating various uses including app downloads and taxi bookings.

However, it’s noted that the free WiFi service is not intended for entertainment applications. In another development, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz was briefed on the province’s first-ever initiative to refund excess fares collected by transporters to passengers. Approximately Rs1.467 million has been reimbursed to passengers, while transporters who overcharged faced fines totaling Rs2.78 million.
During the operation’s first day, fare lists were inspected in 3,220 vehicles, resulting in 1,448 vehicles being fined for violations, 354 being halted from operation, and nine cases of overcharging being registered. The checking process was conducted across various districts in the province, reflecting the government’s commitment to ensuring fair transport practices and enhancing public welfare.
