Punjab Budget FY2026-27 Plans Rs. 1.45 Trillion Development Spending

Punjab has prepared the second draft of its budget proposals for FY2026-27. The province is planning a large increase in development spending.

Officials say the total development budget of Punjab may reach Rs. 1.45 trillion. The plan is still under review.

A major focus of the Punjab budget is transport infrastructure. This sector has been given top priority in the new draft.

Transport-related projects are expected to receive Rs. 303 billion. The goal is to improve roads and urban mobility across Punjab.

The Annual Development Programme (ADP) is set at Rs. 980 billion. It includes multiple infrastructure and public service projects.

Punjab authorities are also planning smart police stations. These will be built in Okara, Rawalpindi, Kasur, Multan, Gujranwala, and Pakpattan.

Development projects in Lahore are also included in the draft. Clean drinking water schemes are part of the plan.

The Punjab government is also focusing on rural development. The Model Villages program is included with a proposed allocation of Rs. 30 billion.

A road rehabilitation program worth Rs. 42 billion is also under consideration. It will target damaged roads across the province.

Local government funding is another key part of the Punjab budget. The sector is expected to receive Rs. 250 billion.

Out of this amount, Rs. 156 billion is reserved for local development projects. This aims to strengthen services at the grassroots level.

Officials are also considering greater financial autonomy for local representatives. This may improve decision-making at the local level.

An IT-based monitoring system is also part of the plan. Punjab may allocate Rs. 560 million for this purpose.

Additionally, Rs. 50 billion is proposed for sewerage and road improvement projects. These will be implemented at the union council level.

The Punjab government says the budget aims to improve infrastructure and public services. It focuses on long-term development across both urban and rural areas.

Officials say the draft is still under consultation. Final approval will come in the upcoming budget session.
