Maulana Fazlur Rehman Rejects Mines and Minerals Bill, Calls it an Attack on Provincial Rights
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman raised concerns on Wednesday, accusing the federal government of attempting to unilaterally seize provincial resources through the controversial Mines and Minerals Bill.
Addressing a press conference at the party’s provincial headquarters in Peshawar, Rehman stated, “The federal government wants to take control of our resources through this bill, and this is an attack on the rights of the people of the province as well as the 18th Amendment.”
Rehman strongly rejected any bill that undermines the authority of the provinces, stating, “Any bill that attacks a province’s authority will be rejected.”

He further asserted, “Neither international forces nor the federal government will be allowed to own the province’s resources. If anyone wishes to invest, they are welcome, but they must first make an agreement with the province. We will not tolerate any attacks on our interests or the seizure of our minerals by others.”
Addressing the issue of Afghan refugees, Rehman emphasized that it was a problem involving both Pakistan and Afghanistan. He suggested that the issue should be resolved jointly with Afghanistan and stressed that Afghan refugees should be allowed to return through a dignified process, rather than being deported.
In his address, Rehman also announced two significant events: a Gaza Million March at Minar-e-Pakistan in Lahore on April 27 and an anti-Israel conference in Peshawar on May 11.
