Ex-Pakistan Captain Javeria Khan Retires From International Cricket

Javeria Khan has declared her retirement from international cricket, marking the end of her career spanning 15 years since her ODI debut in Kurunegala, Sri Lanka, during a Women’s Asia Cup match against Sri Lanka on May 6, 2008.

The right-handed batswoman made her T20I debut against Ireland in Dublin in 2009, as stated in a press release issued by the PCB.

Over the course of her career, Javeria represented the Pakistan women’s team in 228 international matches, accumulating 4,903 runs, including two centuries and 25 half-centuries, and claiming 28 international wickets.

She holds the distinction of being the second-highest run-scorer for Pakistan in both ODIs and T20Is, and is the sole women’s cricketer from Pakistan to surpass 2,000 runs in each format, alongside Bismah Maroof.

Javeria participated in four 50-over World Cups and all eight T20 World Cups since its inception. Additionally, she was part of the Pakistan women’s team that secured Gold medals in the 2010 and 2014 Asian Games.

Having captained Pakistan in 17 ODIs and 16 T20Is, Javeria led the team in two editions of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cups.

The 35-year-old, hailing from Karachi, also completed the PCB Level 2 Cricket Coach course in Lahore last August.

Expressing her sentiments, Javeria Khan stated, “I am bidding farewell to international cricket, though I will remain available for league cricket. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to my family, teammates, the Pakistan Cricket Board, ZTBL, and my fans for their unwavering support and encouragement throughout my journey. Holding Pakistan’s flag high worldwide has been an immense honor for me.”
