Eid ul Azha 2025 Generates Rs 641 Billion Economic Activity in Pakistan

Eid ul Azha generated around Rs. 641 billion in economic activity during 2025, according to recent estimates. The festival remains one of Pakistan’s largest annual market events.

The report shows that Eid ul Azha continues to drive massive nationwide spending. Most of this activity takes place in the informal economy. It is not fully recorded in official statistics.

Experts estimate total spending between Rs. 539 billion and Rs. 752 billion. The base estimate stands at Rs. 641 billion. This reflects strong livestock demand and consumer participation.

Around 7.4 million animals were sacrificed across Pakistan during Eid ul Azha. This shows the scale of livestock trade and rural supply chains across the country.

The festival also created major economic movement in rural areas. Livestock farmers earned more than Rs. 400 billion through animal sales. This income supported thousands of rural households.

Economists say Eid ul Azha acts as one of the largest urban-to-rural wealth transfers in Pakistan. Money flows from cities to rural livestock markets every year.

The study also found that around 532,000 tons of meat were distributed during the festival. This makes it the largest annual food distribution event in the country.

Cash circulation also increased sharply before Eid ul Azha. Currency in circulation rose by Rs. 619 billion ahead of the festival. Adjusted estimates show an abnormal cash flow of around Rs. 369 billion.

Experts say this cash surge reflects heavy buying and selling activity in livestock markets. It also highlights the strong role of cash-based transactions in the economy.

The total economic activity during Eid ul Azha is nearly 60 percent of the Public Sector Development Program budget. This comparison shows the scale of private spending in a short period.

Traders, transporters, butchers, hide collectors, and tannery workers all benefit from the festival economy. Many small businesses earn significant seasonal income during this period.

Despite its large impact, much of this activity remains outside formal records. Economists believe better tracking could improve understanding of Pakistan’s informal economy.

The findings confirm that Eid ul Azha is not only a religious event. It is also a major economic driver that supports millions of people across Pakistan.

The report highlights how livestock trade and related services create widespread financial activity. This strengthens rural economies while meeting national food demand.
