Dubai Airports has entered a recovery phase after UAE airspace restrictions were fully lifted on May 2, following more than two months of operational disruption, according to Khaleej Times.
With normal airspace operations restored, Dubai Airports is now gradually increasing flight activity at Dubai International Airport. The operator is also working closely with various airlines to steadily rebuild and restore their flight schedules in a phased manner.
The restrictions had originally been imposed on February 28, when parts of the UAE airspace were partially closed due to heightened regional tensions linked to the US-Israel-Iran situation. This led to significant adjustments in flight routes and schedules across the aviation network.
Following the reopening, Dubai Airports has begun scaling up aircraft movements in line with available regional air traffic capacity. Authorities confirmed that air traffic operations across the UAE have now returned to normal conditions, allowing for improved connectivity and smoother travel operations.
However, airline schedule recovery is still dependent on the availability of flight corridors in neighboring airspace. Continuous coordination between aviation authorities in the region remains essential to ensure efficient traffic flow and minimize delays as operations stabilize.
Despite the disruption period, Dubai International Airport maintained strong performance levels. Between February 28 and April 30, the airport successfully handled around 6 million passengers, along with more than 32,000 aircraft movements. In addition, approximately 213,000 tonnes of cargo were processed during the same period, highlighting the resilience of its operations even under restricted conditions.
Overall, Dubai Airports is now focused on restoring full operational capacity, improving connectivity, and supporting airlines in returning to pre-disruption schedules while maintaining safe and efficient air traffic management.
