DG NADRA Dismissed Over Possession of Fake Educational Degrees

NADRA Dismisses Director General Zulfiqar Ahmed Over Fraudulent Academic Qualifications

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has dismissed Zulfiqar Ahmed, its Director General (DG), after it was discovered that his academic qualifications were fraudulent, as reported by Hum News.

The issue came to light in 2023, when NADRA’s newly appointed chairman initiated a review of the academic credentials of its officials. Despite Ahmed having obtained equivalency certificates for his degrees from the Higher Education Commission (HEC) in 2018, further scrutiny revealed significant discrepancies.

During the re-verification process, the HEC contacted the institutions listed on Ahmed’s academic records. Both institutions denied any affiliation with him. George Mason University in the United States confirmed that they had no student record for Zulfiqar Ahmed and dismissed the student number he provided as invalid. Similarly, attempts to verify Ahmed’s BBA degree from Westwood College were unsuccessful, as the college had been closed down and its records were inaccessible.

Furthermore, Ahmed’s MBA degree was flagged due to the signature of an individual who was not the university’s president at the time. In response, the HEC launched an investigation, which led to the revocation of Ahmed’s equivalency certificates after confirming these findings.

The Islamabad High Court upheld the HEC’s decision, further supporting NADRA’s action against Ahmed. After failing to provide a satisfactory explanation in response to a show-cause notice, Ahmed was dismissed by the NADRA chairman, citing the court ruling and a lack of credible evidence.
