David Warner is set to participate in a full Big Bash League (BBL) season for the first time. After limited appearances in previous seasons—just one match in each of the first three seasons, six in 2022-23, and two in 2023-24—Warner has now signed a two-year contract with Sydney Thunder. With no international commitments, he will be available for the entire 2024-25 season.

Of his 11 BBL matches, 10 have been with Sydney Thunder, except for one game against them while representing Sydney Sixers. Sydney Thunder general manager Trent Copeland highlighted Warner’s popularity and experience, noting that his full focus will be on the tournament, including the finals.

In other BBL news, Steve Smith has signed a long-term contract with Sydney Sixers, committing to the club for the next three years. Smith, a Sydney native, has been with the Sixers since the league’s first season and recently played in Major League Cricket with the Washington Freedom.

Marnus Labuschagne is expected to join the Brisbane Heat for the 2024-25 season, despite his likely involvement in Australia’s home Test summer. Alex Carey has also extended his contract with Adelaide Strikers for four more years.
