Cristiano Ronaldo Sets a Record in Saudi Pro League

Cristiano Ronaldo set a new record for the most goals in a Saudi Pro League season, netting his 34th and 35th goals in Al Nassr’s final game. “I don’t follow records, the records follow me,” the 39-year-old Portuguese forward tweeted. The ex-Real Madrid and Manchester United star scored in first-half stoppage time and again in the 69th minute, leading Al Nassr to a 4-2 victory over Al Ittihad.

The previous record of 34 goals was held by Moroccan striker Abderrazak Hamdallah since the 2018-19 season. Although Al Nassr finished second, 14 points behind champions Al Hilal, Ronaldo’s individual brilliance was evident.

Since joining Al Nassr in December 2022, Ronaldo has significantly influenced the influx of international talent into the Saudi league.

Moreover, Ronaldo, who captained Portugal to victory at the 2016 Euros, has been selected for this year’s tournament in Germany, marking his 11th international competition. He holds the record for the most capped player in men’s international football with 206 appearances and 128 goals.
