Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has announced an emergency gas shutdown in several parts of Lahore.
The temporary suspension is required for repair work on a leaking gas pipeline along Barki Road. The company said the work requires an emergency shutdown of the gas supply.
The gas supply will remain suspended from 9 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30. The shutdown will continue until 6 a.m. on Thursday, October 1.
Several residential and commercial areas will be affected during the repair period. Consumers in these locations have been advised to make alternative arrangements.
The affected areas include Main Barki Road and Paragon City. All blocks of DHA Phase 6 and DHA Phase 7 will also experience the gas suspension.
DHA Phase 8 is included in the affected areas. Residents of Askari X and Askari XI may also face an interruption.
The shutdown will also cover Airport Road and the Cantonment area. Consumers in Mehfoozpura and nearby locations will be affected as well.
Other areas listed in the shutdown notice include Ghazi Road and Nishat Colony. DHA Phases 1, 2, 3, and 4 are also included.
Gas service will also be suspended in Harbanspura and Bedian Road. Dharampura and Ghaziabad are among the other affected locations.
Canal Road and adjoining areas will also face the temporary interruption. Consumers across these areas are advised to plan their gas requirements accordingly.
SNGPL has asked consumers to take necessary precautions during the shutdown. The company particularly advised residents to keep gas appliances switched off.
Keeping appliances turned off can help reduce the risk of accidents when gas service resumes. Consumers should also avoid leaving burners or other gas appliances unattended.
The company has advised affected consumers to arrange alternative options for cooking and other needs. These arrangements may be necessary during the overnight shutdown.
SNGPL announced the emergency work after identifying a leak along the pipeline. Repairing the damaged section is necessary to restore the gas supply safely.
The temporary closure is expected to remain in place until the scheduled completion time. Gas supply should resume after the repair work is completed.
However, the timing of restoration may depend on the progress of the repair work. Consumers should follow further instructions issued by SNGPL.
Residents in affected areas are advised to remain alert during the shutdown period. They should ensure that all gas appliances are properly turned off.
