Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan has reportedly written to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA). He has asked the agency to follow the Lahore High Court’s recent directions.
Rizwan has also requested the return of his mobile phone. The device has remained with the NCCIA since August 31.
According to ESPNcricinfo, the letter was sent nearly two weeks after the Lahore High Court’s ruling. Rizwan said he had not been informed about the specific nature of the investigation.
He requested the NCCIA to provide written details about the matter. He also asked the agency to clarify when he is required to appear for further proceedings.
Rizwan reportedly stated that no formal communication had been made with him about the court’s directions. He said he remained willing to cooperate with the investigation.
The NCCIA took possession of Rizwan’s mobile phone in England on August 31. This happened one day after Pakistan’s Test defeat to England at Lord’s.
Rizwan was reportedly told that the phone would be returned within three hours. However, the device has remained with the agency for several weeks.
The Pakistan batter had also provided the password for the phone. His latest letter reportedly presents this as evidence of his willingness to cooperate.
The Lahore High Court previously dismissed Rizwan’s petition challenging the NCCIA’s jurisdiction. The court directed him to cooperate with the agency’s proceedings.
At the same time, the court instructed the NCCIA not to harass Rizwan. It also said he should not face unnecessary inconvenience during the process.
The court further allowed Rizwan to approach a competent court for the recovery of seized items. This included his mobile phone, which had not been returned.
Mohammad Rizwan has now asked the NCCIA to clearly explain the investigation. He also wants formal information about any future appearance before the agency.
The latest development follows reports that NCCIA sources claimed Rizwan had not fully cooperated. Those reports said the agency had contacted him several times.
Rizwan’s latest correspondence reportedly disputes that position. Sources close to the cricketer say he remains ready to cooperate.
However, he wants clarity about the investigation before taking further steps. He has also asked the agency to return his mobile phone.
