Court fines Rs 48,000 to tailor for not delivering dress on time

A Consumer Protection Court on Thursday ordered a renowned tailor to pay a fine of Rs. 48,000 after it was established that the tailor failed to deliver the suit on decided time.

According to details, a citizen of Karachi filed a case in consumer court against the tailor, as the tailor failed to deliver the suit on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

The applicant, Muhammad Fahim, informed the Sindh Court that on March 21, 2023, he handed over his suit for stitching to the renowned tailor located on Tariq Road under the commitment to have the suit ready on March 28 as he have to leave for his native area on March 29.

Moreover, Fahim contacted the tailor on March 23 and 24, the Darzi assured him that his suit would be ready on time. However, Fahim called the tailor on March 28 to collect his suit but the tailor said that he will deliver late at night.

The applicant informed the court that the suit he had given for stitching on the occasion of Eid was not delivered by the tailor. Therefore, he had to buy another suit.

After hearing the case, the Consumer Protection Court remarked that the tailor should pay the cost of the suit he was not able to stitch, also reimburse Fahim for the cost of purchasing a new suit and pay for the travelling charges as well.

Furthermore, the Consumer Protection Court ordered the tailor to pay a fine of Rs 48,000 for not delivering the order on time, while Rs 15,000 for causing mental distress to the applicant.
