Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir has received the Patriotic War Medal from the Government of Azerbaijan. The medal was awarded for his role in enhancing military cooperation between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.
Colonel General Karim Valiyev, Azerbaijan’s First Deputy Defence Minister and Chief of the General Staff, visited General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi. During his meeting with COAS Asim Munir, both sides discussed defence ties and regional peace.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), General Munir praised the deep fraternal relations between Pakistan and Azerbaijan. He also expressed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening bilateral defence and security cooperation.
Colonel General Valiyev appreciated the professionalism of the Pakistan Army. He highlighted Pakistan’s success in counter-terror operations like Maarka-e-Haq and Operation Bunyanum Marsoos. He also congratulated Pakistan on its upcoming Independence Day and extended best wishes from Azerbaijan.
On behalf of President Ilham Aliyev, General Valiyev presented the Patriotic War Medal to COAS Asim Munir. The award recognises his outstanding contributions to building strong military ties between the two nations.
The Patriotic War Medal is one of Azerbaijan’s top military honours. It is awarded to individuals who make significant efforts in the field of military cooperation and national defence.
During the meeting, General Valiyev reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s intent to expand collaboration in defence, security, and regional stability. He praised Pakistan’s firm stance against terrorism and its role in promoting peace.
The ceremony and medal award reflect growing trust and cooperation between the two countries. Both sides agreed to maintain regular dialogue and explore new opportunities for joint military engagement.
