On Wednesday, police in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) said they had arrested at least 316 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers for “rioting,” as party chief Imran Khan appeared in court in the Toshakhana case on March 18.

On Saturday, police clashed with PTI activists as Imran Khan’s convoy approached the Federal Judicial Complex (FJC) ahead of his appearance before the district and sessions courts in the Toshakhana case.

Previously, a report on the damage caused by the riots outside the FJC was prepared, detailing damage to government property and injuries to law enforcement personnel.

Hundreds of officials, including Islamabad Police officers and FC personnel, were injured during the riots, according to the report. The majority of those injured were injured by sticks on their limbs, while others were affected by tear gas.

SSP Operations of the Islamabad Police Malik Jamil was also among the officers injured. Jamil was allegedly injured as a result of stone pelting by PTI workers.

According to the report, the PTI employees also caused damage to vehicles and government property.

On Tuesday, Islamabad police arrested 198 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf members for alleged vandalism, attacks on police, and property damage.

On Wednesday, the figure increased to 316.

In a five-part tweet, the capital territory police hinted that that number was likely to rise as further raids were being conducted.

According to the police, the process of identifying all of the accused involved in the incident using cameras is currently underway.

Officials have also confirmed that information is being shared with other districts “in order for the concerned individuals to be handed over.”

“Information about government employees involved in violent acts is being sent to their respective departments so that departmental action is also taken,” the police stated.

Furthermore, public officials’ social media activities were being monitored for further disciplinary action.

“The previous police records of all the accused are also being obtained,” said the police, adding that “information about the employees of private institutions and companies involved in terrorist activities will be sent to their relevant institutions”.

Additionally, “letters are being written to the respective foreign embassies of the migrants found involved in these operations”.

“Action is also being initiated against the facilitators who finance the violent protests,” the police added.

According to the ICT police, at least 58 police officers were injured in the clashes, several vehicles were damaged, and a police post was set on fire.

Hassaan Niazi was allegedly tortured.

Imran Khan claimed on Wednesday that his nephew and PTI focal point Advocate Hassan Niazi was subjected to ‘custodial torture’ after being detained by police outside the FJC on Monday.

The PTI chief said he strongly condemned “the custodial torture that is being done on our workers and leaders including Amjad Niazi, and now, from what I have learnt, on Hassaan Niazi”.

Imran also alleged that Niazi was “abducted immediately after he got bail, and then named falsely in another FIR”.

“Shameful fascism and law of the jungle,” he added.
