Asif Zardari Faces Mahmood Achakzai In Presidential Election

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]The process of electing Pakistan’s next president through secret balloting commenced in the National Assembly (NA), the Senate, and all four provincial assemblies on Saturday. As the favorite candidate, PPP leader Asif Zardari is poised to contend against Mahmood Khan Achakzai for the top position.

In a joint session of the parliament, newly elected Members of the National Assembly and Senators are exercising their voting rights to select the new President. The Chief Election Commissioner serves as the Returning Officer (RO) for this presidential election.

The Election Commission of Pakistan announced that voting for the 14th President will take place in the National Assembly and all provincial assemblies from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. The six-party alliance led by PML-N and PPP has nominated former president Asif Zardari for this prestigious role. Mahmood Achakzai, on the other hand, has been put forth as the candidate by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and SIC. Notably, independent candidates secured 93 seats in the National Assembly.
