Afghanistan Players Faces Backlash Over Controversial Instagram Stories

After New Zealand secured a decisive 5-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in Bengaluru on Thursday, they are now on the brink of securing a spot in the World Cup semi-finals against India. This victory also significantly diminishes Pakistan’s chances of qualification.

Pakistan now faces a formidable challenge in defeating England by approximately 287 runs or with 284 balls to spare in order to replace New Zealand in the semi-finals. The task at hand appears nearly impossible, presenting a monumental challenge for Babar Azam’s team.

Simultaneously, Afghanistan is grappling with an uphill battle and needs to defeat South Africa by around 438 runs to keep any hope of qualification alive. Unfortunately, their aspiration for a first-ever semi-final appearance seems improbable, particularly after a heartbreaking defeat against Australia. Despite reducing Australia to 91/7 in their pursuit of 292, Glenn Maxwell’s unbeaten 201, executed with ‘no footwork’ due to cramps, dashed Afghanistan’s hopes.

Prior to Pakistan’s crucial match against England, Pakistani all-rounder Shadab Khan engaged in light-hearted training, mimicking Glenn Maxwell’s famous ‘no footwork’ shots in the nets.

Following New Zealand’s victory and Shadab’s training session, Afghanistan’s Naveen-ul-Haq and Rahmanullah Gurbaz posted cryptic Instagram stories. Naveen wrote, “Footwork No Footwork But. Program Abhy sahi se warh gaya,” and Gurbaz reposted the story, adding “Wargyaa.”

These Instagram stories sparked displeasure among Pakistani fans, leading them to express their dissatisfaction and criticize the two Afghanistan players on social media.
