The Sindh government has officially declared two public holidays in Sindh for December 2025, giving citizens and the Christian community extended time off during the festive season. The announcement covers public holidays on December 25 for Quaid‑e‑Azam Day and Christmas and an additional holiday on December 26 exclusively for the Christian community to continue post‑Christmas observances.
According to the official notification issued by the Sindh Services, General Administration and Coordination Department, all government, autonomous and semi‑autonomous institutions, corporations, and local councils under provincial control will remain closed on both days. However, departments providing essential services, such as hospitals, police, rescue services and utilities, will continue operations to ensure uninterrupted public safety and services.
December 25 is nationally significant as Quaid‑e‑Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s birthday, a patriotic observance marked across Pakistan, which this year coincides with Christmas Day, celebrated by the Christian community with religious services and family gatherings. The extra holiday on December 26 aims to allow Christian citizens time for additional prayers and church events following Christmas celebrations.
Security agencies in Sindh have also stepped up preparations, with the provincial police issuing directives to ensure foolproof safety and traffic arrangements at churches and communal venues during the holiday period, reflecting the government’s focus on interfaith harmony and public peace.
The move comes amid a broader trend in provincial announcements, as governments across Pakistan adjust calendars for holidays and school closures, for example, Punjab recently announced winter vacations for schools and colleges in late December to early January, providing students extra rest during the festive season.
Officials urge citizens to mark these Sindh public holidays with respect and unity while continuing essential services work without disruption.
