Pakistan achieved a major diplomatic milestone as Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto arrived in Islamabad for his first official visit in seven years. The visit aimed to boost cooperation between Pakistan and Indonesia in education, trade, SMEs, halal certification, and archival research.
President Subianto received a warm welcome at the Prime Minister House from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. A ceremonial guard of honour was presented, followed by the planting of a commemorative sapling by the Indonesian leader.
During the visit, President Subianto also met with President Asif Ali Zardari and Chief of Defense Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir. Discussions focused on trade, investment, defense, health cooperation, and information technology. Both countries highlighted their commitment to strengthening long-term bilateral relations.
Several key agreements and MoUs were signed to enhance collaboration between Pakistan and Indonesia:
- MoU on Cooperation in Higher Education
- MoU on Development of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs)
- MoU on Exchange of Historical Documents and Record Keeping
- MoU on Halal Trade and Certification
- Agreement on Indonesian Aid Scholarship Program for Pakistani students
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif described the meetings as “very positive and constructive,” emphasizing cooperation in medical sciences, health, and vocational training. He confirmed that Pakistan will send doctors, professors, and technical experts to support Indonesia’s growing healthcare sector.
President Subianto expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s hospitality, praising the JF-17 salute as an honour. He highlighted the historical ties between Pakistan and Indonesia and stressed future cooperation in education, trade, agriculture, technology, and health. The leaders also adopted a common position on the Gaza issue, reflecting shared humanitarian concerns.

Officials said the visit marks a significant turning point in Pakistan–Indonesia relations. Both countries are committed to expanding collaboration across strategic sectors, including trade, investment, defense, medical research, and information technology.
