Sugar Mills in Punjab Begin Crushing, Prices Likely to Drop

Sugar mills across Punjab have officially begun the new crushing season, bringing hope for reduced market prices in the coming weeks. Authorities say the timely start will help stabilise supply.

Officials noted that around 27 mills have already started operations. More units are expected to join as the season progresses, improving overall production levels.

The Punjab government believes early crushing will ease pressure on the market. Retail sugar prices have remained high recently due to limited stocks.

With fresh supply entering the market, wholesalers expect prices to decline. Retailers also hope the new season will help normalise rates before peak demand.

Farmers welcomed the timely start, saying delayed crushing in the past caused financial strain. They expect smoother payments and better cane handling this year.

Authorities will monitor mills to ensure compliance and prevent any artificial price hikes. The government has warned that strict action will be taken against hoarders.
