Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar recently revealed why Indian cricket star Virat Kohli has never been invited to Koffee With Karan.
During an appearance on Sania Mirza’s podcast Serving It Up, Karan was asked to name someone who had never been on his show. When Sania mentioned Virat Kohli, Johar admitted that he had never actually extended an invitation.
“I have never asked Virat. And now, I am not asking any cricketers after what happened with Hardik and KL Rahul,” Karan Johar said. He added that some celebrities are never invited because he feels they might not agree to appear on the show.
The reference was to the 2019 controversy involving Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul. The cricketers faced heavy backlash for sexist remarks during their episode, which was later removed from Disney+ Hotstar. Both players were even suspended before India’s ODI against Australia, despite issuing apologies.
Karan Johar’s explanation highlights his cautious approach toward inviting cricketers following the Pandya-Rahul incident. While Virat Kohli has never appeared, his wife, Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma, has been a guest on multiple occasions.
Fans have long wondered why Virat Kohli has never joined the star-studded show. Karan Johar’s recent remarks provide clarity and emphasize that his decisions are often based on prior experiences and the nature of interactions with celebrities.
Koffee With Karan continues to feature top Bollywood stars and media personalities, remaining one of India’s most popular talk shows. Karan Johar’s insights into guest selection show his careful approach to maintaining the show’s reputation and handling public sentiment.
