The Karachi Traffic Police have issued over 11,000 e-challans in just three days after launching the automated traffic monitoring system. Officials revealed that 1,755 of these fines were specifically for overspeeding.
However, many motorists have raised concerns, arguing that fines are being imposed without proper signage. They claim the absence of speed limit boards and awareness messages is causing confusion among drivers, with some saying continuous challans could consume a large portion of their income.
Traffic DSP Kashif Nadeem stated that the digital enforcement system is currently active at key locations, including Hasan Square, Civic Center, Shahra-e-Faisal, Nursery, Baloch Colony, Drigh Road, I.I. Chundrigar Road, Clifton, Teen Talwar, and Defence Ittehad.
He added that the system automatically detects speeding and other traffic violations.
Interestingly, an official vehicle used by DIG Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah was also issued an e-challan recently. The DIG confirmed the fine—Rs. 10,000 for not wearing a seatbelt—was generated near Garden while his driver was operating the car.
