Apple’s upcoming iPhone 18 Pro models could face limited availability at launch due to a reported shortage of DRAM memory, potentially creating production challenges for the company’s next-generation smartphones.

The reported supply issue is linked to Apple’s upcoming A20 Pro chip, which is expected to power the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and the company’s first foldable iPhone. The chip is reportedly being manufactured using TSMC’s advanced N2 process.

While production yields and manufacturing volumes are reportedly progressing well, completed wafers are said to be waiting for DRAM memory to be packaged alongside the chips. If the memory supply remains constrained, it could affect the number of devices Apple is able to prepare ahead of the launch.

Apple Seeks Additional Memory Suppliers

Reports suggest Apple is actively working to secure sufficient DRAM supplies before the next iPhone generation enters mass production.

Major memory manufacturers including Micron, SK Hynix and Samsung are reportedly among the companies being approached to provide additional memory capacity. Apple is also said to be considering Chinese memory manufacturer CXMT as another potential supplier.

Securing multiple sources could help Apple reduce pressure on its supply chain and maintain production targets. However, the company’s ability to secure enough compatible DRAM could determine how many iPhone 18 Pro units are available when the devices officially launch.

Pro Models Could See Higher Demand
