Sydney Sweeney Recalls Early Career Struggles Over Harsh Beauty Criticism

Actress Sydney Sweeney, known for her role in Euphoria, recently spoke candidly about the pressures she faced in her early career. In an interview with Variety on Monday, October 27, the 28-year-old revealed that she was advised to get Botox at just 16 years old.

“I have very strong eyebrow muscles. And I had someone tell me to fix my face or else I’m not going to make it. I should get Botox. I was 16!” she shared. Despite this pressure, Sydney Sweeney emphasized that she has never undergone cosmetic procedures and is committed to aging naturally. “I’ve never gotten anything done. I’m absolutely terrified of needles. No tattoos. Nothing. I’m going to age gracefully,” she added.

The actress also addressed social media “comparison pictures” showing her at different ages. She explained, “It’s really funny… I’m like, ‘I’m 12 in that photo. Of course, I’m going to look different. I have makeup on now and I’m 15 years older.’” This highlights the unrealistic expectations young actors often face.

In addition to beauty pressures, Sydney Sweeney recounted a frustrating audition experience. She described reading a scene while the casting director was eating a bag of chips and not paying attention. “I’m in a casting and I’m reading my scene and the casting director is eating a bag of chips, and I’m like, ‘You’re not paying attention at all,’” she said.

Sydney Sweeney’s reflections shed light on the challenges of breaking into Hollywood, including harsh beauty standards, inattentive industry professionals, and public scrutiny. Despite these obstacles, she has remained committed to authenticity and personal growth.
