SP Adeel Akbar Reportedly Injured Himself In Accidental Gunfire

In a tragic incident, SP Adeel Akbar reportedly lost his life after accidentally shooting himself inside his vehicle in Islamabad. According to a report by The News, police sources revealed that the officer sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head on October 23.

Authorities have since launched a high-level investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding his death. His medical report and leave application, submitted before the incident, have also surfaced and are being closely examined by investigators.

Forensic experts disclosed that the submachine gun (SMG) used in the incident was fired at a 65-degree angle. Officials noted that officers of the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) generally do not receive formal training in handling SMGs, raising questions about how the weapon was used at the time of the incident.

According to an operator who accompanied SP Adeel Akbar, the officer had returned from the Foreign Office after attesting some documents. Upon returning, he reportedly asked for his weapon. The operator said he first handed over the gun without its magazine, but later gave him the magazine after SP Adeel Akbar inquired about the bullet count.

Moments later, a gunshot was fired inside the vehicle, hitting the officer in the forehead and exiting through the back of his head. The operator stated that SP Adeel Akbar died instantly. However, he was rushed to PIMS Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

Officials are now working to confirm whether the shooting was purely accidental or if any other circumstances may have played a role. The federal government’s investigation team is expected to release its findings once the forensic and ballistic reports are finalized.
