Naqvi Proposes Trophy Ceremony for India’s Asia Cup Win

Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has reportedly proposed hosting a special ceremony to present the Asia Cup 2025 trophy to India, which emerged victorious in the tournament held last month.

According to sources, Naqvi’s proposal aims to formally recognize India’s achievement in a symbolic event that would bring together cricket officials and representatives from participating nations. The ceremony, if approved, is expected to take place before the start of the upcoming international cricket season.

Naqvi, who also serves as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman, is said to have shared the idea during an ACC meeting. He emphasized the importance of promoting sportsmanship and unity in cricket, especially amid ongoing regional tensions.

“The Asia Cup is more than a competition it’s a celebration of cricket in Asia,” Naqvi reportedly said. “Recognizing the champion team through a joint ceremony reinforces the spirit of respect and collaboration among member nations.”

The proposal has sparked interest within the cricketing community, with many viewing it as a step toward fostering better ties between cricket boards across South Asia. However, some analysts believe the move could face logistical and diplomatic challenges, depending on how both nations approach future cricketing relations.

India claimed the Asia Cup 2025 title after a strong performance throughout the tournament, securing their dominance in limited-overs cricket. The team’s success was widely celebrated, and a formal presentation would further highlight their achievement on an international stage.

Cricket fans have expressed mixed reactions online while many praised Naqvi’s gesture as a positive initiative to promote goodwill, others questioned whether the timing and political backdrop might complicate the plan.

Meanwhile, regional cricket continues to evolve with bold experiments. Recently, the West Indies made ODI history by fielding an all-spin bowling attack, marking a new chapter in limited-overs strategy and innovation

If approved by the ACC, the proposed trophy ceremony could serve as a rare moment of unity in South Asian cricket, bringing together officials and fans in celebration of the sport’s enduring spirit.
