Court Reinstates Arshad ‘Chaiwala’ Khan’s CNIC, Confirms His Pakistani Citizenship

The Lahore High Court’s Rawalpindi Bench has directed the restoration of the national identity card of Arshad Khan, famously known as “Chaiwala.” Acting on the court’s order, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) reinstated his CNIC after its verification board confirmed that Arshad Khan and his family are legitimate Pakistani citizens.

Arshad Khan’s lawyer, Umer Ijaz Gilani, stated that NADRA’s verification process found no irregularities regarding his citizenship status. The court emphasized that blocking a citizen’s ID card or passport without lawful justification violates fundamental constitutional rights guaranteed under the Constitution of Pakistan.

The case was subsequently disposed of after the petitioner’s plea was accepted.

It is noteworthy that NADRA had earlier suspended Arshad Khan’s national identity card and passport due to doubts about his nationality, which affected his ability to travel and continue his professional activities. The court’s decision not only reinstates his legal identity but also reaffirms his citizenship, bringing an end to the controversy surrounding his status.

The ruling has been widely seen as a reinforcement of citizens’ constitutional protections against arbitrary administrative actions.
