A man allegedly set his mother-in-law on fire after a failed attempt to reconcile with his estranged wife in Punjab’s Mailsi area.
Reports indicate that the suspect’s wife had left him following a domestic dispute and returned to her parents’ home. When the man visited to persuade her to come back, an argument broke out, and in a fit of rage, he allegedly doused his elderly mother-in-law with petrol and set her ablaze.
Hearing her screams, neighbors rushed to help, but the suspect fled before they arrived. The victim, identified as Iqbal Mai, was taken to a nearby hospital by rescue teams. Doctors confirmed that about 30% of her body, including her arms and back, suffered burn injuries, though her condition remains stable.
Police have recorded statements from the victim, her daughter, and witnesses. A search operation is underway to arrest the suspect, Aamir Sohail, with authorities expressing confidence that he will be captured soon.
