Former Pakistani senator and activist Mushtaq Ahmed Khan has been detained by Israeli forces after they intercepted the Global Sumud Flotilla, a humanitarian mission bound for Gaza.
Unconfirmed reports suggest Khan was leading Pakistan’s delegation on the flotilla, which included activists from 44 countries. The Pak–Palestine Forum confirmed his arrest on social media, urging people to demand his and other detainees’ release.
Khan, known for his pro-Palestine stance and human rights activism, was part of the flotilla organized to deliver aid and show solidarity with Palestinians under Israel’s blockade. While most of the vessels were intercepted, one observer ship escaped. Pakistani delegate Syed Uzair Nizami, aboard that vessel, confirmed the capture of Khan’s ship.
Israeli authorities have not issued a statement regarding the detentions. Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry has also remained silent on the matter, with no indication yet of possible diplomatic action.
Meanwhile, social media campaigns in Pakistan and abroad are calling for Khan’s immediate release, alongside other international activists held by Israel.
