Motorway M-5 has been shut down for all traffic near Jalalpur Pirwala due to worsening flood conditions.
A DG PDMA spokesperson said flood erosion has raised the risk of breaches along the motorway. PDMA Punjab, the NHA, and local authorities are working to protect the route using sandbags and stones. Water levels in Jalalpur Pirwala are expected to drop within the next 24 hours.
The situation in Punjab’s rivers is also improving, with the flow at Panjnad falling to 392,000 cusecs and at Guddu Barrage to 627,000 cusecs.
According to motorway officials, traffic has been diverted to alternate routes at the request of the NHA. Northbound vehicles are being redirected from Uch Sharif, Jhangra, and Jalalpur interchanges, while southbound traffic is being diverted through Shah Shams, Sher Shah, and Shujabad South interchanges
