A school principal in Swat made a life-saving decision on Friday, just minutes before a deadly flood hit the area. Nearly 900 students were safely evacuated thanks to his quick action.
The incident happened in a school located near a stream. Around 9 a.m., the principal, Saeed Ahmad, noticed the water levels rising rapidly. He immediately ordered an evacuation of all students and teachers.
Within 15 minutes, everyone had safely exited the building. Soon after, powerful floodwaters swept through the area, destroying half of the school, including boundary walls and the playground.
Local officials confirmed that about 900 students were present at the time. The timely evacuation prevented what could have been a major tragedy.
The principal, who has served in this position for 12 years, said his past experience helped him recognize the danger. In 1995, the same school had been damaged by similar flooding. That memory made him act without delay.
Swat and other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have faced severe flooding in recent days. More than 350 people have lost their lives in just three days due to heavy rain and flash floods.
Authorities warned that this year’s monsoon is stronger than usual. Rainfall has increased by 50 to 60 percent compared to last year. Officials expect more heavy rain until early September.
Many schools, homes, and roads have been destroyed. Relief efforts are ongoing, but access to remote areas remains difficult.
The principal’s decision is being praised by both local officials and community members. His leadership saved hundreds of lives and set an example for others in crisis situations.
As the region recovers, the focus remains on rebuilding schools and ensuring student safety. The story of this brave principal is a reminder of the importance of swift thinking during emergencies.
