NEW DELHI – The US has abruptly cancelled its trade delegation’s visit to New Delhi, stalling crucial bilateral negotiations.
At the same time, China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi is set to arrive in India next week for high-level talks with National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, following Jaishankar’s recent trip to Beijing.
The discussions are expected to focus on easing tensions along the disputed Himalayan border and exploring the revival of cross-border trade, suspended since the deadly 2020 clash. Restarting this trade would signal a significant shift in ties between the two Asian powers.
Officials have also suggested efforts to restore direct flights and tourist visas, reflecting a broader attempt to rebuild economic and diplomatic trust.
As India and China cautiously edge toward reconciliation, global attention remains fixed on the outcome.
