The Pakistan Navy launched its third Hangor-class submarine, PNS/M Mangro (Desig), on Friday in Wuhan, China. The event took place at the Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group Company Ltd, Shuangliu Base.
Vice Admiral Abdul Samad, Deputy Chief of Naval Staff Project-2, was the chief guest at the ceremony. He stressed the growing importance of maritime security in the region. The Pakistan Navy is committed to protecting national interests and promoting a safe maritime environment.
The Hangor-class submarines have advanced sensors and weapon systems. Vice Admiral Samad said these features will boost deterrence and help maintain regional balance. They will also support maritime stability in the area.
The launch highlights strong cooperation between Pakistan Navy and China. China Shipbuilding & Offshore International Company Ltd (CSOC) and Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group played key roles in the project. Their efforts were praised for meeting important milestones.
Pakistan signed an agreement with CSOC to buy eight Hangor-class submarines. Four of these will be built in China. The remaining four will be constructed at Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works. This will happen under a transfer-of-technology agreement.
