A madrassa in Swat’s Khwazakhela region was sealed, and nine staff members, including teachers, were arrested after a 14-year-old student was allegedly beaten to death, ARY News reported on Tuesday.
The tragic incident occurred in the Chaliyar area, where the student, Farhan, was reportedly subjected to severe physical punishment by madrassa teachers for skipping class. He later died from his injuries.
In response, the victim’s family and local residents launched a protest on the main Kalam-Matta road, demanding swift justice and the arrest of all those responsible.
Khwazakhela’s Assistant Commissioner ordered the madrassa sealed, and an FIR was registered under Section 302 (murder) and the Child Protection Act.
Two of the suspects have been arrested, though the primary accused, Muhammad Umar, remains on the run. District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Umar confirmed that nine individuals linked to the case have been taken into custody, with ongoing efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects.
The DPO also stated that evidence of abuse against other students has surfaced, and instruments used in the torture were recovered from the madrassa. Reports indicate that such abuse had been occurring for months. All remaining students have now been sent back to their families, and the madrassa has been officially shut down.
