China’s Commerce Minister Wang Wentao confirmed on Friday that he met Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang in Beijing a day earlier. While he acknowledged Huang’s popularity on Chinese social media during the visit, Wang shared no specifics about their discussion.

Nvidia declined to comment on the meeting.

This marks Huang’s third visit to China in 2025. He also met with Vice Premier He Lifeng and Ren Hongbin, chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade. Chinese officials expressed continued support for foreign investment during the engagements.

At a press conference, Huang praised AI models by Chinese firms Deepseek, Alibaba, and Tencent as “world-class” and highlighted AI’s transformative impact on supply chains.

He noted strong interest in Nvidia’s H20 AI chip, recently cleared from U.S. export restrictions, but said orders are pending U.S. export license approval.

Additionally, Nvidia unveiled plans to launch a new RTX Pro GPU tailored for China. The chip will comply with U.S. export rules and is intended for smart manufacturing and robotics training.
