Father of deceased PTI worker "abducted," says Fawad

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senior Vice President Fawad Chaudhry on Friday claimed that slain party worker Ali Bilal’s father was abducted after his funeral while other members of the family are in police custody.

Fawad shared the news on Twitter and cited the PTI’s legal division as his source.

He expressed fears that Bilal’s case would suffer the same fate as many before him, “a video will be released from police custody stating that we [Bilal’s family] forgive Mohsin Naqvi and the police”.

However, the former minister warned, “this country will not forget”.

The PTI claims that Ali Bilal, more commonly known to his comrades as Zil-e-Shah, died of police violence and torture after personnel launched a crackdown on party workers and supporters protesting near PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s residence in Zaman Park on Wednesday.

The former ruling party had announced a rally from Zaman Park to Data Darbar to mark the launch of its election campaign. But violence broke out after police moved to Zaman Park to prevent the demonstrators from advancing towards Mall Road.

Both sides posted videos of the skirmishes on social media, in which police were shown using force against PTI employees and collecting up a number of protesters. In several videos, PTI employees may also be seen using violence, like as vandalising police cars and assaulting police officers.

The party employee’s death was announced by the PTI leader via social media. Imran stated on Twitter that Ali Bilal was not armed and that the Punjab police had killed him.

Shameful, this brutality on unarmed PTI workers who were coming to attend [the] election rally. Pakistan is in the grip of murderous criminals. We will file cases against IG, CCPO & others for murder.”

According to the PTI, the dead could be seen being arrested by police from Zaman Park and being beaten by authorities, including senior police personnel.

The Punjabi administration has disputed that Bilal passed away while being held by the police. According to the CCTV evidence gathered by the Punjab Safe City Authority, he claimed that a private vehicle had dropped him off at the Lahore Services Hospital.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
