The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast heavy rainfall across Sindh from Saturday to Monday, warning that intense downpours could trigger urban flooding in low-lying areas. Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious as monsoon activity intensifies across southern Pakistan.
According to the Met Office, a low-pressure area is currently located over southwest Rajasthan and adjoining regions. The weather system is continuously drawing monsoon currents into southern and central parts of Pakistan, increasing the likelihood of widespread rain, wind and thunderstorms.
Several areas of Sindh have already received significant rainfall. Chachro recorded the highest rainfall at 82mm, followed by Mithi with 56mm, Chhor with 50mm, Diplo with 47mm, Kaloi and Nagarparkar with 35mm each, Islamkot with 33mm, Dhali with 14mm and Mirpurkhas with 4mm.
The PMD said rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms is expected to continue across Sindh through Monday. Isolated heavy downpours are also likely in parts of northeastern and central Punjab during the forecast period.
Apart from Sindh, rainfall is expected in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and northeastern and southern Balochistan. The weather system may bring heavy showers to several districts, increasing the risk of weather-related disruptions.
The Met Office warned that heavy rainfall could cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of Sindh and in central and southern Punjab districts, including Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Gujrat, Sahiwal, Sargodha, Jhang, Faisalabad, Khanewal and Multan.
Authorities also cautioned that hill torrents may develop in the Dera Ghazi Khan hill streams and local nullahs and streams in northeastern Balochistan. Residents living near vulnerable areas have been advised to remain alert.
The PMD further warned that heavy rain, strong winds and lightning could damage weak structures, including solar panels, electric poles, billboards and other exposed installations. Citizens have been urged to take precautionary measures and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rainfall.
