Karachi’s public transport system will see major changes during Muharram due to security concerns. Authorities have announced the suspension of key bus services to ensure the safety of the public and smooth flow of religious processions.
The BRT Green Line will be fully suspended on the 8th, 9th, and 10th of Muharram. Officials confirmed that the decision was made to avoid traffic issues and protect passengers during large gatherings and processions.
In addition to the BRT service, the Peoples Bus Service will also face major disruptions. On the 9th and 10th of Muharram, seven of its ten routes will be completely suspended. On the 8th of Muharram, five routes will face partial suspension.
These measures are part of a larger security plan in Karachi during the days of Ashura. Every year, thousands of people participate in Muharram processions, which move through various parts of the city. To avoid any mishaps, the authorities have chosen to limit the movement of public transport, especially in areas where the processions are expected.
Commuters are advised to plan their journeys in advance. Transport officials have requested full cooperation from the public. They have also stated that normal bus services will resume once Ashura ends and the situation returns to normal.
Although the temporary suspension of bus services may cause inconvenience, the move is aimed at maintaining peace and ensuring public safety during one of the most sensitive religious periods in the country.
Passengers can stay updated on route changes through official announcements or transport service helplines. For now, citizens are urged to use alternate means of transport or avoid non-essential travel during these days.
Public transport in Karachi will be affected during Muharram as authorities suspend key services for safety. Meanwhile, CM Maryam Nawaz Prioritizes 240 E-Buses for Southern Punjab Districts, highlighting ongoing efforts to improve public transport across the province.
