The Sindh government has announced its plans to produce a feature film based on the life and humanitarian work of the late Abdul Sattar Edhi, widely regarded as Pakistan’s greatest philanthropist. The initiative aims to immortalize Edhi’s legacy and inspire future generations through the power of cinema.
The announcement was made by Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon during the closing ceremony of a film festival in Karachi. He revealed that the provincial government would partner with renowned filmmaker Satish Anand to bring the biopic to life, underscoring the importance of showcasing national heroes on screen.

“In India, cinema is actively used to shape narratives and global perceptions. We need to realize the same potential here,” Memon said. He noted that while Indian filmmakers are preparing dozens of films based on recent cross-border tensions, Pakistan should focus on telling its own compelling and inspirational real-life stories.
Calling Edhi a symbol of hope and compassion, Memon stressed the importance of educating youth about his legacy. “If we fail to share his story, we risk losing a vital part of our national identity. Through film, we can ensure his humanitarian spirit lives on,” he added.
While details on casting, production schedules, and release dates remain undisclosed, the announcement has been widely welcomed as a much-needed tribute to a man who dedicated his life to serving humanity. Edhi passed away in July 2016, but the Edhi Foundation continues to serve millions through its nationwide network of ambulances, shelters, and orphanages.
