[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]ISLAMABAD: Saqib Nisar, a former chief justice of Pakistan (CJP), claimed on Monday that he never referred to Imran Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf, as being “totally sadiq and ameen” (truthful and honest).
The former Chief Justice of India (CJI) made reference in a statement to a dispute involving decisions made during his tenure on Article 62(1)(f), a provision under which the Supreme Court in 2017 dismissed former prime minister Nawaz Sharif but did not do the same for Imran.
He added that Imran was declared sadiq and ameen on three issues.
He insisted that Akram Sheikh had been shown to be sadiq and ameen on each of the three grounds he had mentioned in writing when he petitioned the court to decide on Imran Khan’s case.
It should be recalled that Sheikh was the senior Supreme Court attorney who prosecuted retired general Pervez Musharraf on treason charges and later argued a case for Prime Minister Imran Khan’s disqualification.
He continued, noting that his ruling was “still available for anyone to verify this.” “I did not proclaim Imran Khan entirely sadiq and ameen which was subsequently politicised,” he said.
It should be remembered that a three-judge SC bench led by Pakistan’s Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar and composed of Justices Umar Ata Bandial and Faisal Arab declared Imran Khan to be honest but disqualified Jahangir Tareen, the PTI’s general secretary, in December 2017. Imran and Tareen had been targeted for disqualification by Abbasi for a number of reasons.
In its decision, the top court recognised Imran’s position on both the acquisition of land in Bani Gala and the creation of his offshore firm.
The ruling is still under discussion as one of the many controversies involving the inconsistencies discovered when the Supreme Court and high courts used their quo warranto jurisdiction against parliamentarians to review their eligibility following elections.
Nisar’s remarks today come as the PTI leader is being sought for questioning in connection with corruption allegations in the Toshakhana case, for which a lower court has also issued non-bailable arrest warrants.
Nisar asserted that his WhatsApp account had been hacked and expressed concern that his information would be exploited to distort the truth for political ends.
He said, “Recently after hearing such an audio, I had also [falsely] assumed that it was real. Before, numerous films of mine had been stitched together to form an audio, and a private channel had revealed within six hours that it was fake.
He emphasised that accessing social media accounts through hacking and obtaining data in this way constitutes theft.
Commenting on the ongoing political unrest in the nation, Nisar stated that he thought elections were the only way to end it all.
“Many attempts to stop elections were undertaken in 2018 but they finally failed,” he stated.
“I may have made a lot of bad choices, but why aren’t the ones I made for the good of the nation followed?” He questioned while stating that clean air and water were the foremost problems facing the nation.
He added that this would be his final interview and that he was working on a book that would be released after his death and that would contain all the information.
