RDA has decided to build markets and commercial plazas on vacant plots and open spaces located within its housing schemes in Rawalpindi.
The decision was made during an important meeting chaired by Abdul Aamer Khattak. Senior RDA officials, including Additional Director General Masood Ahmad and Chief Engineer Anwar Baran, also attended the session.
During the meeting, the Estate Management Directorate presented details of a new asset management initiative covering vacant land and open spaces in 13 housing schemes managed by the RDA.
Officials explained that the project is intended to protect RDA-owned land from illegal encroachments and land grabbing while also helping the authority generate long-term revenue through commercial construction and development activities.
According to authorities, the initiative will focus on the proper use of unused land available within existing housing schemes by converting these areas into productive commercial properties.
Commissioner Abdul Aamer Khattak directed officials to take all necessary steps to ensure vacant land is transformed into revenue-generating assets. He emphasized the importance of utilizing available land effectively instead of leaving it unused.
The commissioner also instructed the RDA to provide complete support and cooperation to the Estate Management Directorate to help successfully implement the project across all targeted housing schemes.
Officials further stated that project designs and development plans for the proposed markets and commercial plazas should be prepared on a priority basis so construction work can begin as soon as possible.
Authorities believe the initiative will not only improve land management within RDA housing schemes but also increase business activity and commercial opportunities in different parts of Rawalpindi.
The development is also expected to strengthen RDA’s financial resources through additional revenue generated from commercial properties and business spaces.
Officials added that better utilization of vacant plots would help improve the overall infrastructure and planning of housing schemes while reducing the risk of illegal occupation of government-owned land in the future.
