May 31 Deadline Set for Full Completion
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has set a strict deadline of May 31, 2025, for the completion of both projects, with construction teams working round the clock to meet this target.
The Nawaz Sharif Flyover, a Rs. 2.3 billion project, is being executed under the supervision of the Communication and Works (C&W) Department. The Frontier Works Organization (FWO) is leading the construction efforts, while Nespak provides design and consultancy services.
Meanwhile, the Mall Road Underpasses Project, costing Rs. 4.39 billion, encompasses the construction of two underpasses at TM Chowk and Mall Plaza Chowk. It also includes a new underground pedestrian walkway near Medicine Market designed to enhance pedestrian safety and accessibility.
Traffic Signals to Be Removed, Congestion Reduced
Officials emphasize that these projects will eliminate traffic signals at critical choke points, significantly reducing congestion along some of the busiest routes in the city.
Future Plans for Signal-Free Traffic Flow
Looking forward, the C&W Department plans additional upgrades with new flyovers and underpasses under consideration at Kacheri Chowk, Qasim Market Chowk, and Chairing Cross Chowk. These developments aim to enhance traffic flow on Mall Road and Peshawar Road, eventually creating a signal-free corridor from Kacheri Chowk all the way to the motorway junction.
