PSL Set to Resume on May 17 After Tensions Ease

The HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) is set to resume on May 17, with the final scheduled for May 25, following a temporary suspension due to recent cross-border hostilities with India. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi confirmed the development on Tuesday, expressing hope that the resumption will reignite national unity and enthusiasm through cricket.

The tournament was halted after an Indian drone crash near Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium heightened regional tensions. In solidarity with the armed forces, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had suspended all matches. The decision to resume play comes just days after a US-brokered ceasefire helped de-escalate the situation.

All six PSL franchises have started re-engaging their overseas players, who were evacuated last week, to return under the revised schedule. The remaining eight matches, including the final, are expected to be played exclusively in Rawalpindi, pending final confirmations.

While most foreign players are expected to return due to a clear international calendar, some hesitation remains, particularly from Australian cricketers. However, reports of former Australian captain Ricky Ponting postponing his departure from the region have been taken as a positive sign.

Cricket fans across the country are welcoming the PSL’s return as a symbol of resilience and hope, signaling a shift back to normalcy after a tense period.
